Hours before the rally was scheduled to start, racists streaming into Charlottesville have been marching through the city, where they've been met by counter-protesters. Shortly before 12 p.m. on Saturday, Virginia's governor declared a state of emergency and the city designated the rally an "unlawful assembly."

President Donald Trump hasn't commented on the situation, even though allies, critics, and family members alike all have as of 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, almost a full hour after the state of emergency was declared.

It started with racists holding tiki torches on Friday night, but escalated Saturday to marchers praising Hitler.

According to reports from the scene, violent clashes have broken out too.
