GARDENA —?Painter Laura Kina49 street erotice bronxphotographer Emily Hanako Momohara will appear on Friday, July 10, at 8 p.m. at Okinawa Association of America, 16500 S. Western Ave., Room 103 in Gardena.
The two artists are featured in “Sugar/Islands: Finding Okinawa in Hawai‘i,” an exhibition that will open at the Japanese American National Museum on Saturday, July 11. They will discuss their artwork and reconnecting with their Uchinanchu roots.
They will also be selling and signing their art book, which features paintings from their joint exhibition. Kina’s “Sugar” and Momohara’s “Islands” series are individual bodies of work grounded in each artist’s own journey to uncover her family history; both are fourth-generation, mixed-heritage women with familial roots in Okinawa and Hawaii.
