The portrait is an ode to Dmitri Vrubel's 1990 Berlin Wall graffiti painting, "My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love," that was inspired by the 1979 photograph that showed East German communist leader Erich Honecker and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev embracing in the fraternal kiss.

Trump and Putin's admiration for one other is well noted, with Putin praising Trump's bid for the Republican presidential nomination and Trump saying he'd get along "very well" with the Russian leader.
