The Japanese American National Museum, 100 N. Central Ave. in Little Tokyo, will celebrate the 30thanniversary of “The Karate Kid” on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Reception with light refreshments at 6 p.m.; screening at 7 p.m.; panel discussion at 9 p.m.

Directed by John Avildsen (“Rocky”), the 1984 film featured Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi, a karate teacher who becomes a mentor to Daniel (Ralph Macchio), a bullied teenager. Morita received an Oscar nomination for his performance and reprised his role as Miyagi in “The Karate Kid Part II” (1986), “The Karate Kid Part III” (1989) and “The Next Karate Kid” (1994). He died in 2005 at the age of 73.

Moderated by Jared Cowan, the panel will feature Macchio, Avildsen and Pat Morita’s daughter, Aly Morita. Q&A to follow.

Free for JANM members, $10 for non-members in advance; $12 for non-members at the door, cash only.
