The pain and eroticism“Dis/orient/ed Comedy” Los Angeles two-year anniversary show will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 8 p.m. at the Union Center for the Arts’ David Henry Hwang Theater, 120 Judge John Aiso St. between Temple and First streets in Little Tokyo.

The first-ever (mostly) female Asian American stand-up comedy tour will feature Liliana Cervantes, Mona Concepcion (Seattle), D’lo (Los Angeles), Kyle Mizono (San Francisco), Atsuko Okatsuka (Los Angeles) and Jenny Yang (Los Angeles).

Seeking a supportive network of comedians, and with a desire to build audiences and community, Los Angeles-raised Okatsuka and Yang and Seattle-based founding co-producer Yola Lu created “Dis/orient/ed Comedy.”

This first-of-its-kind comedy show debuted in summer 2012 to a sold-out audience of nearly 300 at the David Henry Hwang Theater. The tour has taken the fresh voices of Asian American female comics to colleges and universities such as Wellesley College, Pomona College and Loyola Marymount University, and standing-room-only shows in Seattle, San Francisco, and the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica.

Pre-show mixer at 7 p.m. hosted by the California Healthy Nail Salons Collaborative.

General admission is $35. Group rate for 10 or more is $20. Proceeds benefit the Tuesday Night Project, one of the longest-running free public art series in Downtown Los Angeles.

Community/media sponsors: AngryAsianMan, 18 Million Rising, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles, Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center, Bicoastal Bitchin, Disgrasian, Kollaboration, Hyphen Magazine, Little Tokyo Service Center, Thick Dumpling Skin, Organization of Chinese Americans-Greater Los Angeles, Mishthi Music, “Monsters of Talk” podcast with Margaret Cho and Jim Short, Homeroom Creative, and Visual Communications.
