Farage and his wife, Kirsten, have long had an interest in the States, but always felt tied to the family in Britain, the report said.

However, after the surprise victory at the EU referendum, Farage allegedly believes he would feel "freer" from public attention living abroad.

Needless to say, people didn't take the rumour well and everyone made the same joke:

Farage, who is still leader of the anti-immigration UKIP party, campaigned for Britain to leave the European Union at the June referendum.

The report comes after President-elect Donald Trump suggested that Farage would make a "great" British ambassador to the U.S.

A spokesman for 10 Downing Street dismissed Trump's call, saying: "There is no vacancy. We already have an excellent ambassador to the U.S."

Following Trump's surprise victory in the American presidential election, Farage flew to New York to meet the president-elect, becoming the first British politician to do so.

The two were pictured smiling gleefully in front of Trump Tower's golden elevator.

In a cheeky nod to his ambassadorial ambitions, Farage handed out Ferrero Rocher chocolates at a reception on Nov. 23 at the Ritz to celebrate his Brexit victory:
