To commemorate the Day of Remembrance on Wednesday, Feb. 19, “A Flicker in Eternity: Based on the Diary and Letters of Stanley Hayami” will be screened from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Charles E. Young Research Library, Presentation Room, on the UCLA campus.

The award-winning documentary is about the coming-of-age tale of Stanley Hayami, a gifted teenager incarcerated during World War II and caught between his dream of becoming a writer/artist and his duty to his country. One of the film’s co-directors, Ann Kaneko, will be speaking, with Q&A to follow. Seating is first-come, first-served.

Co-sponsored with the George and Sakaye Aratani Endowed Chair, the Asian American Studies Department, and the UCLA Nikkei Student Union.

Other local Day of Remembrance events include a talk on “The Unfinished Business After Redress” on Saturday, March 1, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162^ndSt., Gardena.

UCLA Professor Lane Hirabayashi will be the main speaker. Entertainment will be provided by members of the popular Grateful Crane Ensemble.
