POMONA — “Transnational Lives in Motion: The Art of Laura Kina and Vi?t Lê” will be on view at the W. Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery at California State Polytechnic University Pomona, 3801 W. Temple Ave. in Pomona, from Feb. 27 to April 23.

The exhibition is co-sponsored by the Weglyn Endowed Chair for Multicultural Studies and the Kellogg University Art Gallery and co-curated by Mary Yu Danico and Michele Cairella Fillmore.

Kina’s exhibition, named after her latest series, “Uchinanchu,” and Lê’s trilogy “lovebang!” will be exhibited simultaneously, and for the first time, for each artist.

“Uchinanchu” combines Asian and Pacific Islander pop-culture textiles, fabrics and T-shirts, formulated into colorful, large-scale tapestries, with traditional painting motifs addressing how the assimilation of multiple cultures fold meticulously into one personal, yet collective, journey.

The “lovebang!” trilogy features video installations “lovebang!,” “eclipse,” and the world premiere of “heARTbreak!” — each, together, transect the topics of Asian pop culture, hip-hop, sex, homo-eroticism and being transgender with struggle and war, nostalgia and heartbreak.

Kina is professor of art, media and design at DePaul University in Chicago; co-founder of the Critical Mixed Race Studies conference; co-author of “War Baby/Love Child: Mixed Race Asian American Art” (University of Washington Press, 2013); and reviews editor for Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas. www.laurakina.com/

Lê is an assistant professor in visual studies at California College of the Arts (San Francisco/Oakland). Opening reception, with performances by electronic, indie R&B artist TinTin V., will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. Artists’ symposium will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bronco Student Center, Ursa Minor.

The Kellogg Art Gallery is located on the north side of the Bronco Student Center in Building 35A across from the University Library. From Parking Lot C, go toward the palm tree-lined walkway and follow the path on Olive Line Walk to the Kellogg Gallery and Sculpture Garden.

Admission is free. Gallery hours: Monday and Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 12 to 4 p.m. Friday, closed; Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. Campus will be closed March 19 to 27 and 31.

Visitor parking: $7 day permits on weekdays; $4 day permits on weekends; $1 per hour permits available.
