For context, second-place finisher Taylor Swift has 91.5 million followers, Beyoncé has 85.3 million followers and Monday night's presidential debate was viewed by around 81 million people.

After noticing Gomez was approaching the 100 million follower mark, fans started the #GomezBreakTheInternet hashtag to help her reach the finish line -- because active account or not, the fans want what they want.

Gomez's most recent Instagram photo is from her Revival Tour, which she cancelled in late August due to health issues related to lupus.

"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges," she told People.

Gomez donated proceeds from her shortened tour to the Alliance for Lupus Research.
